"For consider your calling, brethren, that there were not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble; but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong, and the base things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are, so that no man may boast before God." (1 Corinthians 1:26-29)

How to Help

By Prayer

prayer

Prayer is the heart and soul of our ministry. SIM’s motto is “By Prayer” and as we continue to get to know our SIM colleagues better, we are fully convinced that they mean it! We are growing in our understanding of the power of prayer, but if nothing else, our first overseas term has taught us how vital and important prayer support is to our ability to do anything! Thus, we believe that raising quality, consistent prayer support is more important and in many ways harder than raising financial support. We have set some minimum goals for our prayer partners but we hope to be supported by many more. This partnership needs to be a two-way relationship! We have a responsiblity to provide open, honest, and timely information about our needs for you to pray about. We also have a responsibility to pray for you and this responsibility is fundamental to the strengthening and growth of our relationships. Please keep us informed about your lives and challenges so that we can support and encourage each other as we grow in Christ.

Prayer Support Partnership
Prayer Type Description Partners
Daily This level of partnership is based on a mutual commitment to daily intercessory prayer. We believe this is a vital component of our ministry's success, both while at home and when we're overseas. We ask our daily prayer team to commit to cultivating a more intimate relationship with us so that we can pray for them, and share in their concerns as they share in ours. 20
Weekly Although not as intense as our daily prayer warriors, our weekly prayer partners are also an integral part of our prayer support. Once again, we are looking for a mutual relationship of intercessory prayer. We commit to pray regularly for our weekly prayer partners, and encourage them to let us know how we can pray for them. Our weekly prayer partners will receive our monthly prayer letter (called "Journey Together") with specific prayer requests. 50
Sporadically We would love to have prayer support from all of our friends and family, and we strive to maintain open and honest communication about how we are doing, what we are struggling with, and what our needs are. Sporadic prayer partners will receive our quarterly newsletter (called "Burkina Bits") to keep them up-to-date on our ministry and prayer needs. We also encourage our sporadic prayer partners to let us know when they have a prayer concern we can pray with them about. Hundreds

If you would like to become a prayer partner, please e-mail us to let us know. We will put you on our e-mail list to keep you posted on what to pray for, how things are going, and how God is answering your prayers.

By Serving

We strongly believe that missions is a way of life, not just a choice of career or a label you receive if you choose to live and minister overseas. Nevertheless, it can often be helpful to step out of our comfort zones and experience "missions" in an overseas context, allowing God to show us how He is working in other parts of the world and expanding our understanding of (and heart for) the world He created. We challenge you to consider participating in a missions trip experience at least once in your lifetime. If every Christian became actively involved in global missions, this world would be a very different place, not just for the work they might accomplish, but also for the way that "getting out there" changes our lives and drives us towards a deeper, more hands-on faith.

We also strongly believe in an integrated, holistic approach to missions work. Just as the church has many members with different gifts to serve each other, so are we in the world as we seek to fulfill God's call to be His ambassadors in this world.  In Mahadaga, Burkina Faso, where we are currently living and working, there are many ways you can partner with us by serving in several different capacities, whether you are looking for a long-term position, short-term position, or to come as part of a team.

Here are some of the ways you could serve in Mahadaga:

- Medical Doctor
- Nursing (other healthcare skills as well)
- Physical Therapy & Occupational Therapy
- Children & Youth Ministry
- High School teacher
- ESL
- Engineer (technical skills in general)
- Computer/IT
- Agriculturalist
- Administration (accounting/bookkeeping, management, training)
- Leadership Training
- Communications/Public Relations
- Evangelism
- Micro-enterprise development
